Etymology

The name Malvina comes from Celtic or German origin and is often translated as "breathing sweetness from her eyes". It may come from the Scots Gaelic words maol mhìn, meaning "beautiful face/forehead". The name as Malwine could be show its origins from the German mal win ovvero "friend of justice" or "the one who protects laws".

Origins

Most likely, this name was derived from a character in Ossian written by Scottish poet James Macpherson. Malvina was a fiancé of Oscar, the son of the main character Ossian. Even though this pretty name is quite rare today, in the past - thanks to influence of Macpherson - was quite popular in Germany.
