- Vilimaina Davu
Vilimaina Davu is a former international
netball player, born inFiji and representing both her homeland andNew Zealand as goal keeper. She also playedbasketball at an international level. On the
netball court she was a veteran of approximately 90 international tests. After moving to New Zealand in 2000, she steadily improved her speed, timing, and intimidatory tactics to become a very tough, permanent fixture in theSilver Ferns defense line. In recent memory she has had more warnings from umpires than almost all other players in the netball arena for her deliberate pushing, holding, and intimidation of opposition, and for very open disagreement and dispute of umpiring decisions. Davu certainly will be remembered as one of the key faces making netball a far rougher sport. In part she brought netball into the wider sporting debate of whether elite athletes should be role models of exemplary sportsmanship, or simply do what they can get away with to win.Davu retired from international netball and joined
Fiji Netball as the Fiji Team's new Head Coach and player (similar to whatWaisale Serevi did in sevens rugby ) to prepare the team for the2007 Netball World Championships , held in New Zealand in November 2007.Vilimaina Davu is a Weight Loss Ambassador for Jenny Craig in New Zealand and is featured on their advertisements.
