- Eindhoven Marathon
The Eindhoven Marathon is an annual
marathon race over the classic distance of 42.195km held in the city ofEindhoven ,The Netherlands in October. It has been an annual race since 1990, after the event was a bi-annual contest for the prior eight years. The first two editions took place in 1959 and 1960, under the name of “Lichtstad Marathon” ("Light City Marathon"). Just men were invited to run.The marathon was re-established in 1982, when the city of Eindhoven celebrated its 750th anniversary. From 1997 to 2000 the run in the province of
Noord-Brabant also served as the Dutch National Marathon Championship, withLuc Krotwaar winning it four times in a row in the men's competition. In the 1999 edition the Dutch/Russian runnerNadezhda Wijenberg qualified in Eindhoven for the2000 Summer Olympics , clocking 2:28:45.The Eindhoven Marathon is the third biggest marathon contest in the Netherlands, after the Rotterdam and
