Tragedy at Kufra

Tragedy at Kufra

The Tragedy at Kufra was an incident during World War II when eleven South African aircrew members flying in three Bristol Blenheim aircraft of the South African Air Force 15 Squadron perished when they got lost due to a navigational error near the Libyan oasis of Kufra in May 1942.

Several factors hampered the search efforts and only one member of the original twelve survived long enough to be rescued eight days after initially being lost.
