SK FC Levadia was founded in 1998, when metal manufacturer
OÜ Levadia accepted to supportEstonia nEsiliiga club, FK Olümp Maardu. For the honor of new sponsor, FK Olümp Maardu changed his name to FC Levadia. Successful cooperation immediately brought the victory ofEsiliiga and for the next seasonMaardu 's football club will play inMeistriliiga .In preparing for the next season in
Meistriliiga , the team needed replenishments. At the same time,Tallinna Sadam was ending his work as a football club and both teams chairmansViktor Levada (Levadia) andVladimir Volohhonski (Tallinna Sadam) decided to merger. FC Levadia's debut season was very successful, the team won League Cup,Meistriliiga ,Estonian Cup andEstonian SuperCup . In 2000 Levadia won againMeistriliiga ,Estonian Cup andEstonian SuperCup . During the whole season, Levadia didn't lose any of his games, except his bothUEFA Champions League second qualifying round games against UkrainianShakhtar Donetsk . After two loss toShakhtar Donetsk , Levadia fired managerSergei Ratnikov and for season 2001 Levadia hiredRussia nValeri Bondarenko . The first season with new manager didn't went very well, because they changed gold to bronze and inEstonian Cup they only reached to semi-finals. They only wonEstonian SuperCup in 2001. On November 20, 2001, Levadia hired well known Finnish manager,Pasi Rautiainen . The season turned out to be very exciting, because the title was open until the last round. AtKadrioru Stadium , there was against twoEstonia n team Levadia and Flora, the attendance was 3,200 and the game ended to 0-0 draw. Flora kept hisMeistriliiga title, with two points ahead. In Intertoto Cup, Levadia reached to second round. At the end of the seasonPasi Rautiainen left the club and returned toFinland for personal reasons. New head coach was appointedItalia nFranco Pancheri . In the middle of the season Levadia firedFranco Pancheri , because he was unable to maintain the level, what achieved withPasi Rautiainen . Levadia appointed a new manager,Tarmo Rüütli , who was Levadia's second coach. Under the guidance of former Estonia national team coach, the team rose from crisis and finished in third place. In 2004, the team moved fromMaardu toTallinn , thecapital and largestcity inEstonia . Under the leadership ofTarmo Rüütli , the team wonMeistriliiga andEstonian Cup . InUEFA Cup , Levadia reached to second qualifying round. In 2005, Levadia won onlyEstonian Cup . In 2006, Levadia won onlyMeistriliiga .In
UEFA Cup , their fisrt opponent was Finnish clubFC Haka . They were equal opponents for each other and Levadia just narrowly scraped through to the next round whereFC Twente was a much tougher nut to crack. Levadia caused a huge upset and beat the Dutch club 2-1 on aggregate and with that was the first Estonian club to advance to the third round of a European competition. After a 1-1 away draw,Konstantin Nahk scored a magnificent free-kick at theA. Le Coq Arena which Levadia used from then on in Europe to give the Estonian club a shock 1-0 victory. They were drawn againstNewcastle United in the first round proper and the English club had real trouble breaking down a stubborn Levadia defence. After going down 0-1 at home through anAntoine Sibierski goal inTallinn , Levadia lost 1-2 atSt. James' Park with ex-internationalIndrek Zelinski the goalscorer. In season 2007, Levadia won
Meistriliiga andEstonian Cup and inUEFA Champions League they reached to second qualifying round, losing toRed Star Belgrade by away goals rule. The darkest point in the season was Levadia's contract extensions. Levadia moved many of his first-team players to reserve teams, because they didn't sign the contract extension what Levadia was offering. In 2008 Levadia appointed a new managerIgor Prins , becauseTarmo Rüütli left the club and started to manage the Estonia national team.
