Art Baron (b.
January 5 ,1950 inBridgeport, Connecticut ) is an Americanjazz trombonist. He also playsdidgeridoo ,conch shell, penny-whistle, alto and bassrecorder , andtuba .Baron is an alumnus of the
Berklee College of Music . He joined theDuke Ellington band in August 1973, at the age of 23, during the last year Ellington led the band, and was the last trombonist Ellington ever hired. Duke Ellington band alumni. He has performed and/or recorded withBuddy Rich ,Bruce Springsteen ,Lou Reed ,Stevie Wonder ,James Taylor ,Illinois Jacquet ,Roswell Rudd ,Mel Tormé ,Charlie Musselwhite ,Andy Harlow ,Fontella Bass ,Sam Rivers ,Glen Velez ,John Tchicai ,Wilber Morris ,Alan Silva ,George Gruntz ,Joey DeFrancesco ,Bobby Watson ,Elliott Sharp ,Annea Lockwood ,Matt Glaser , andCyro Baptista .His latest album, "Conch, the Awakening" features guests such as John Cutrone and Doc E. Track four, "I Just Can't Leave This Cave", features the "Doc" taking the baseline for a walk and a 12 minute solo by John Cutrone.
Baron lives in
