- Roger de Ville
Roger de Ville (born
January 21 ,1935 ) was an Englishcricket er. He was a right-handed batsman and a leg-break bowler.De Ville's cricketing career began in 1955, when he turned out for the Derbyshire Second XI in the Minor Counties Championship, and it wasn't until 1963 that he was brought into the first team as a lower-order batsman. He played two games in the disastrous 1963 season, which saw Derbyshire finish bottom of the Championship table. Following this season, de Ville played just one more game for the Derbyshire team, against Oxford University.
De Ville moved to Staffordshire, where he played in the Minor Counties Championship until 1973. Later in his career, he played for
Marylebone Cricket Club , until 1977.De Ville, who turned out for the Derbyshire Second XI for five solid seasons, was a lower-middle order batsman, but an inconsistent bowler, whose lack of consistency saw him dropped in favour of quicker bowlers such as Brian Jackson.
