Ronnie Fields played at
Farragut Academy in Chicago from 1992-1996 and was a teammate ofKevin Garnett during the 1995 season. Fields had a (reported) 50-inch vertical leap. He was a 3-time Parade All American selection (1994-96) and a consensus First Team All American (Parade, USA Today, McDonald's) his senior year. He was also the first to ever play in the "Best of the Best" game at the Nike All American camp in 1993, a game that featured NBA MVP'SAllen Iverson ,Kevin Garnett , andNaismith Prep Player of the Year winnersRon Mercer andJerod Ward .In high school he averaged 34 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, and 4 blocks a game.Fact|date=August 2007 Fields was injured in a car accident on February 26, 1996, in which he broke his neck. He had to wear a protective halo while his neck healed. He declared himself eligible for the 1996CBA Draft and was selected in the 7th round (73rd overall) by theLaCrosse Bobcats . He also declared for the1997 NBA Draft but later withdrew his name. A fantastic slasher, Ronnie Fields knows how to score near the basket.. Year after year, he managed to improve some other parts of the game, like passing, court vision and defense, but he never improved his outside shooting. He was also CBA steals leader several times, and is the only player in the history of the CBA to lead the league in both scoring and steals in two straight seasons.
Fields also suited up as an import in the
Philippine Basketball Association for theTanduay Rhum Masters . He has also played in Venezuela, Turkey, Lebanon and Greece. Fields currently is playing professional basketball in the CBA for the Minot Skyrockets.Awards
