Sulejman "Sula" Rebac (born in 1929 in
Mostar , died inNovember 17 ,2006 inMostar ) was a Bosnian football player and manager.He started playing football in Velež Mostar in 1947. In 1954, he moved to
Hajduk Split where he stayed for several seasons. He also played one season forFK Sarajevo . In total, he played more than 1000 games, scoring 620 goals. He is considered to be one of the most celebrated football players in history of Velež andBosnia and Herzegovina . In 1956, Rebac also competed for theSR Croatia national football team againstIndonesia .After retirement, he began his coaching career. It can be said that this part of his career was even more successful. He started in 1968/1969 season as a coach of Velež Mostar. He will be remembered as a creator of unforgettable generation of players. Although they have never managed to win a title, Velež Mostar was among the top Yugoslav clubs at the time. Players like
Dušan Bajević ,Enver Marić ,Franjo Vladić ,Džemal Hadžiabdić ,Vahid Halilhodžić ,Aleksandar Ristić ,Boro Primorac ,Vladimir Pecelj ,Momčilo Vukoje ,Ahmed Glavović ,Dubravko Ledić ,Jadranko Topić ,Marijan Kvesić ,Marko Čolić andSlobodan Mrgan , all made their names under the guidance of Sulejman Rebac. In 1977/1978 season, he was a coach ofFK Željezničar .In December 1973, he was appointed to a coaching commission, alongside
Miljan Miljanić ,Milan Ribar ,Tomislav Ivić andMilovan Ćirić , created to lead the Yugoslavia national team. As a part of it, he was present at the 1974 FIFA World Cup.Sulejman Rebac died on
November 17 ,2006 inMostar . He will always be loved and remembered by all Mostar citizens and Velež fans, but also remembered by every football fan in Bosnia-Herzegovina andformer Yugoslavia .
