The bands style is contemporary hard rock with basis in a firm, heavy rhythmic thump overlain by harmony guitar parts and a melodic vocal. The bands sound was inspired by bands such as:
Deep Purple , Uriah Heep,Whitesnake , TNT,Mötley Crüe ,Iron Maiden and the faroese bandRockmen .The band was originally formed in November 1991 by Bergmann Finnsson (Guitar),
Heri Joensen (Guitar and MIDI-guitar), Gunnar H. Thomsen (Bass), Kári Streymoy (Drums) and Robin Løvhøjten (Vocals and keyboards). The goal of the band from the start was to play original compositions. The bands first live appearance was in Tórshavn in January 1992 and the years 1992-1995 the band had appearances on national radio and TV and played on larger rock shows in the Faroe Island. Wolfgang climaxed in popularity in 1995 as the band became the third runner up in the first national music competition for bands in the Faroes, Prix Føroyar, and subsequently played live in larger arenas in the Faroes that summer. The original lineup changed over these years with different singers, drummers and the addition of an organ player in 1995. The first one to leave the band was Kári Streymoy, who was replaced by Henning Nicodemussen on drums in the fall of 1992. In early 1993 Robin Løvhøjten left the band and was replaced on vocals by Einar Jacobsen. This lineup was consistent in the golden years of the band in the period 1993-95. In 1995 the lineup was added by organ player Jón Gaasedal.
In the period 1996-2000 there where numerous changes in the lineup and over these next years the band became more of a rock entertainment band playing a lot of smaller gigs and also adding covers to the playlist. In late 1997 three of thebandmembers moved to Denmark for educational reasons and in the years 1997-2000 the band only played in the summer months around the Faroes.
Over the period 1995-96 the band recorded ten of their original compositions in a recording studio in Tórshavn. Despite only needing final details and mastering, the recordings have never been released.
Three of the original members in Wolfgang: Heri Joensen, Gunnar H. Thomsen and Kári Streymoy, went in 1998 on to form the Viking metal band Týr.
After playing around the Faroes in the summer of 2000 there has been a hiatus of 8 years, where the band, although not dismanteled, didn't play. In early 2008 the band reformed and in June this year they played their first gig in 8 years. Currently preparations for a tour of the Faroes in late summer/ autum are under way.
The Wolfgang current lineup is: Einar Jacobsen (Vocals), Bergmann Finnsson (Guitar), Pól Jespersen (Guitar, Keyboards and Vocals), John Schwartz Jacobsen (Bass and Vocals) and Bárður Thomsen (Drums).
