Enrique Saborido

Enrique Saborido

Enrique Saborido (1876 or 1877 – September 19, 1941), was an Uruguayan tango pianist, composer and dance teacher, who also played violin.

He was born in Montevideo but moved to Buenos Aires when he was four years old and adopted Argentine citizenship. He abandoned his studies and started to work, first in a bookshop, until 1892, and later in the Secretary's Office of the Teatro San Martín for a period of 15 years.

His Spanish parents noticed his musical predisposition and tried to encourage it by sending him to violin and piano classes. Later, he started composing tango.

His first success was "La morocha", which sold 280,000 copies and was one of the first tango songs known outside the country. He died in Buenos Aires.
