Holism on its own is a method or tool for thinking critially about a certain topic or issue. It is an all-inclusive idea that the "whole is greater than the sum of its parts". A way to ensure that all aspects of an issue are considered and all perspectives are taken into consideration. Everything from the small, minute, individual details to the big picture. Also, it is not only addressing these differenct perspectives separately, but being able to relate them to each other in various ways.
Holism in the context of ecological anthropology is using this tool for thinking to critically examine different issues within this subject area. Addressing not only individual relationships between humans and their environment, but also communities, families, societies, as well as nations and the world as a whole. It is also examining the difference in relationships between the way individuals relate to their environment versus the way societies or other groups do.
In all, holism in ecological anthropolgy is not any one specific idea or argument, but more it is a way of going about examining and critically thinking about different ideas related to ecological anthropology.
