Wesley's Youth Project

Wesley's Youth Project

Wesley's is a registered charity that was established in June 1997 to provide a safe place place for young people in a friendly environment that is free from drugs and alcohol. The project ceased its operations in January 2001 due to financial difficulties. It was located in England.

Darlington like most other towns and cities had a significant under age drinking and substance abuse problem. It had the associated problems such as homeless young people, young lone parents and youth crime. Wesley's was situated in the town centre and was perfectly sited to offer young people A POSITIVE ALTERNATIVE to the attraction of pubs and clubs in the area.

Situated in the old Memorial Hall of Bondgate Methodist Church, Darlington, the project was staffed by a handful of dedicated and experienced youth workers supported by a large team of volunteers.

Wesley's was exclusive in that it was the first youth centre of its kind in the United Kingdom bringing the nightclub scene to a younger generation but in a safe and controlled environment.

The old Wesley's website is still accessible from [http://www.wesleys.org.uk Wesley's Youth Project] and is more of a historical article of how the project ran.
