Black Pied Dairy Cattle

Black Pied Dairy Cattle

The Black Pied Dairy Cattle (German: Schwarzbuntes Milchrind (SMR)) was a cattle breed of the GDR, created through combination breeding.

1963 Professor Schönmuth suggested this way: Jersey bulls from Denmark are crossed with German Black Pied cows. The descendants of this crossing are crossed with Holsteins.

With this three-breeds-crossing they wanted to create a cattle breed with high milk performance, high milk fat content, and sufficient beef performance.

This breed was continued until 1990. After the German reunification the Black Pied Dairy Cattle was displaced by the German Holstein Cattle.
