Gonesh

Gonesh is the name of a North American brand of products specializing in incense, candles, and fragrance items. The trademark is owned by Genieco, Inc. They are based out of Chicago, Illinois.

History

In 1923, a Lithuanian immigrant with the name of Radzukinas had acquired a small company by the name of The Hindu Incense Company. For business reasons, he changed his name from Radzukinas to Radkins. He then proceeded to manufacture charcoal incense cones and incense burners. He was able to operate the Hindu Incense Company with success from the 1920s well into the 1960s.

Sometime in the mid-sixties, the second generation of the Radkins family entered the business. It was decided that they were to rename the company, and thus Genieco, Inc. was born. The product line was expanded to include incense sticks. The new brand name was Gonesh, after the Hindu Elephant Boy, the God of Luck. The name Gonesh was trademarked in 1965.

Today, the company is in its third generation of Radkins. They continue to sell incense that smells the same as it did in the sixties, and is still sold under the same name, Gonesh. Their trademark is "The Best Incense".

Manufacture

The manufacture and packaging of Gonesh incense is somewhat uncommon. It is manufactured using a dried charcoal coated stick or cone. This is then immersed into a scented oil, the charcoal in the stick or cone absorbs some of the oil and afterwards they are left out to dry. After drying the newly scented sticks or cones are sealed inside an airtight bag before packaging. When burned, the approaching ember vaporises the oil in the stick or cone into the air and the charcoal (along with any stick that may be present) burns away. This vaporised oil creates a rich, strong scented smoke.

The company also manufactures candles, air fresheners, and other accessories. Their most popular scent, as noted on their website, is No. 8. - Perfumes of a Spring Mist.

Products

There are a variety of different fragerences sold under the Gonesh name. They are categorized into Classic Collection, Extra Rich Collection, Gonesh Outdoor, Holiday Traditions, African American Heritage, and Los Santitos. They are also involved in the manufacture and/or marketing of Buzz, Herb and Earth, DK Incense, Inner Source Aroma Therapy Collection, and Nippon Kodo.
