- Dairo Paulos
-
Dairo Paulos (alternatively Da'iro P'awlos or Dahro Caulos) is a village on the outskirts of Asmara, Eritrea. The name means "Fig of Paul" and is reported to refer to a characteristic tree of the area and a founder of the village. There is a small reservoir near the town.[1]
Dairo Pawlos is now on a transit line of the municipality of Asmara near the Asmara International Airport. The village consists of ancient stone houses, called hidmo with wattle and clay roofs as well as a more modern village of concrete block villas. There is an Eritrean Orthodox Church and a small Mosque. The village is similar to thousands of villages in the Eritrean highlands, though it is now changing with rapid urbanization and a move to a market economy.[citation needed]
