Karl Burnett is a New Zealand actor best known for his portrayal of Nick Harrison on the long-running New Zealand soap, "Shortland Street". Karl was 16 years old when offered the role of Nick Harrison on the popular New Zealand soap Shortland street in 1992. The then West-Auckland high school student had no other acting experience apart from the drama classes he had been taking at school but decided to take the role.

Burnett now works as a boom operator on the show, after admitting that he had blown all the money he earned as an actor on cars and "fast living" [cite news

Karl is now a sound recordist for the New Zealand version of the Australian travel show "Getaway".

Karl has also just published a novel called "The Bible II" a comedy. Karl recently appeared on TV 3's weight related show "Downsize me" and weighed in at a hefty 120kg. Karl admitting his diet consisted of burgers, pizza and beer. Karl stated he wanted to lose 30kg in 6 weeks but was told by his trainers 20-25 kg would be realistic..Karl's previous fast food diet was replaced alternative healthier replacements of the high fat food he use to binge on.
