Florence Red Wolves

The Florence Red Wolves are a summer baseball team that plays in Florence, South Carolina. The Florence Red Wolves are part of the Coastal Plain League, the top summer baseball league in the Southeast.

History

The Red Wolves began playing in Florence in 1998 after relocating from Raleigh, NC where they were known as the Raleigh Red Wolves. The Florence Red Wolves have some of the state's top players on its roster from many highly ranked colleges, such as Clemson, Duke, University of North Carolina, University of South Carolina, and Florida. Over 30 of the Red Wolves former players now play on a professional level.

Owners

A local attorney, Kevin M. Barth, and his wife have owned the Florence Red Wolves since August 2001.

Location

The Florence Red Wolves play their home games at Legion Stadium, also home of the Florence Legion Post 1 baseball team. The field is located on Stadium Drive right off East Palmetto Street in Florence, South Carolina.

The Florence Red Wolves' season begins in the first weeks of June and ends in the beginning of August. The Red Wolves play a 56 regular game season against 13 other teams in the Coastal Plain League. After the regular game season a three-day tournament is played for the championship.

Coaches

The current coaches are Sean Heffernan-Head Coach and Graham Sikes-Assistant Coach. In 2006 Sean Heffernan led his first season as the Florence Red Wolves head coach. Prior to 2006 Sean Heffernan was assistant coach for the Florence Red Wolves for one season. In 2006 Coach Heffernan became an Assistant Coach for Francis Marion University, a local college in Florence, South Carolina. The Red Wolves Assistant Coach Graham Sikes has helped coach the Red Wolves for two seasons in 2005 and in 2006.

Since 2001 the Florence Red Wolves have made the playoffs every year. The Red Wolves were first half champions in 2003 and went on to play the Outer Banks Daredevils in a game for the Championship, where they were defeated. The Florence Red Wolves were also named Coastal Plain League 2004 "Organization of the Year".
