Wu Yao-tsung (zh-tsp|t=吳耀宗|s=吴耀宗|p=Wú Yaòzōng) (1890-1979), a Christian leader under
Communist China , was the founder of theThree-Self Patriotic Movement . He has played an important role in thetheology ofK. H. Ting . social gospel and the ethical teachings ofJesus and not fond of the supernaturally oriented theology of most churches. He had been aYMCA secretary, author, and editor of a Christian magazine before the Communist takeover of China was complete. In response to a call from, and in consultation with PremierZhou Enlai he published the "Christian Manifesto", eventually signed by 400,000 signatories, that launched theThree-Self Patriotic Movement . He was a dominant figure in the movement until theCultural Revolution of 1966.
