updated= November 26, 2006Halfbridled (foaled February 2, 2001 in
Kentucky ) is a darkbay or brownthoroughbred filly bred byWertheimer et Frere ofFrance .Following a victorious debut in a Maiden Special Weight race at
Del Mar Racetrack , Halfbridled contested the Grade IDel Mar Debutante Stakes where she defeated five opponents including Hollywood Story and Victory USA. She then went to the prestigious Breeders' Cup prep race, the 1 1/16th miles Grade IIOak Leaf Stakes atSanta Anita Park inArcadia, California . In the Oak Leaf she faced six others including Hollywood Story again. ["Daily Racing Form" October 25, 2003 Vol CIX No. 298 BC page 14]Entering the
Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies undefeated, Halfbridled went to the gate on October 25, 2003 as the 2-1 favorite in a field of fourteen. She drew the furthest post from the rail, #14. She devoured the field in classic style under her usual jockey, Hall of Fame riderJulie Krone . ["Orange County Register" October 26, 2003 "Sports" page 11]After this event Halfbridled won the
Eclipse Award for Outstanding 2-Year-Old Filly .Halfbridled was retired from racing early in her four year old racing career, due to her tendency to "tie up" before races, resulting in her being scratched. It was hoped that breeding her would end the problem. She successfully delivered a filly in 2007 by Giant's Causeway. Hopefully with such a quality sire and dam, Halfbridled's filly will continue in her mother's successful footsteps, and maybe even win an Eclipse Award herself.
