Šintava is a
village andmunicipality inGalanta District of theTrnava Region of south-westSlovakia .History
In historical records the
village was first mentioned in 1042, when Peter Orseola, descendant of Stephen I., united with German emperor Henry III. Together, they arranged campaign against Ugrian aristocracy, that in 1041 raised against Peter led by palatine Samuel Abe. They conquered Bratislava, whole area of river Vah, castles Šintava, Hlohovec, Bana and they reached up to river Hron.Second written historical report from year 1074 comes from Vienna picture chronicle, where Šintava castle is mentioned as a place, where owerthrown king Solomon, Son of Ugrian king Ondrej I., was succoured by Henry IV., German emperor. They fought about recuperation of the throne against count Gejza I., who had his residence in Nitra. The chronicle shows: "And when emperor came to the river Váh, Solomon rode on horseback with three formations from Šintava towards Nitra".
Geography
The
municipality lies at anelevation of 139metres and covers anarea of 11.565 km². It has apopulation of about 1719 people.External links
