Here Be Monsters (novel)

The fourth book in the Heirs to the Warlock series by Christopher Stasheff, published in 2001.

"When Alouette, fiancée to Gregory Gallowglass, has a horrible vision of monsters coming out of a fog to invade Gramarye, they both decide to find them and use their magic to save the land in this latest installment of the Heirs to the Warlock series. After learning of the threat, Gregory's brother, Geoffrey, and Prince Alain decide to follow. Then their fiancées, Cordelia and Quicksilver, come after, planning to meet up with them when it is too late to turn back. Alouette is kidnapped by mountaineers and separated from Gregory, Geoffrey, and Prince Alain before she is rescued by Cordelia and Quicksilver. The three women track the men while fighting off monsters on their way and repair the relationship among them that was torn by past hurts. What ensues is a parade of wizards and warriors that meet up with various monsters and conquer them before going on to the next ones. In the end, they all meet up and save Gramarye from the threat. There is plenty of fighting and a variety of monsters to conquer, but the action does not flow as it could. The dialogue is witty, but a reader unfamiliar with the past relationships between the characters could get lost easily. This book would appeal mainly to those who follow Stasheff's series."
