- Warlock and Son
"Warlock and Son" is a
science fantasy book by American authorChristopher Stasheff , published in 1991. It is the twelfth book in the Warlock of Gramarye series. The story follows Magnus Gallowglass, oldest son of Rod Gallowglass, the Warlock in Spite of Himself, and Gwen Gallowglass, his wife and the most powerful witch of Gramarye, as he goes out into the world to seek true love. His encounters with a series of women mirror the happenings of folk songs including "
Allison Gross ", "Matty Groves ", "True Thomas ", and "The Witch of the Westmorland ", as well as Keats' poem "La Belle Dame Sans Merci ".The novel is the direct prequel to the "Rogue Wizard" series, also by Stasheff, which follow Magnus' adventures alone. The third installment of this series, "
A Wizard in Bedlam ", was published in 1979 and is thus older in real time than all but two of the "Warlock" series, which feature Magnus as a child and teen with his siblings.
