Wangjing, Beijing

Wangjing, Beijing

Wangjing (; Hanyu Pinyin: Wàngjīng) is a major residential area in Chaoyang District, in the northeast of Beijing, China. The name "Wangjing" means "view of Beijing".

Koreatown

Expansive in dimensions, it is a very important residential zone and has a large number of high-rise apartments built from the mid-1990s onwards. Because of the large number of South Korean residents in "Wangjing" , it has earned the nickname of Beijing's Koreatown. More than 70,000 Koreans live in the neighborhood. Activities

Wangjing sits between the northeastern 4th Ring Road and the northeastern 5th Ring Road (a new exit is being built, heading clockwise on the ring road), as well as Jingcheng Expressway and the Airport Expressway. Many buses serve the area, and Beijing subway CityRail Line 13 links to Wangjing from its Wangjing West station. The CityRail station, however, is situated inconveniently far from the centre of Wangjing, and this has created a booming business of taxis, motorcycles, and velotaxis that ferry commuters between their homes and the subway station during rush hour. Nevertheless, it is expected that the Airport Extension of Line 13 will add a few stops in the Wangjing area.

Technology Center

Wangjing houses many technology companies, both small startup companies and national and international giants. Examples of this presence include:

* Wangjing Science and Technology Park [ [http://www.bjinvest.gov.cn/english/dac/cy/200607/t124133.htm Invest in Beijing, Official Chinese Government Information about Wangjing Science and Technology Park] ] , which houses mainly technology startup companies.
* A major office of China Telecom.
* Many foreign telecommunication R&D offices for companies such as Panasonic, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Alcatel and Lucent.

Education

There are plenty of schools in Wangjing, and some of them are pretty famous:
*China Central Academy of Fine Arts
*Beijing No.80 High School(it's the only Beacon high school located in Chaoyang District)
