Thoroughbred (Gundam)

Thoroughbred (Gundam)

The SCVA-72 Thoroughbred was one of the seven Pegasus-Class Assault Carriers built during the OYW. It was assigned to the 16th Autonomous Corps, and was primarily designed for combat using the two late model V Project Mobile Suits, RX-78-4 and the RX-78-5. The Thoroughbred is only found in the manga and in the video game

hip History

The Thoroughbred launched from Federation HQ Jaburo at the same time as her sister ship, the White Base. The ship, captained by Commander Kilsteen Lombart, is given two late model Gundams, G04 piloted by veteran Luce Kassel, and G05 piloted by young hotshot Ford Romfellow. The ship is given the task of guarding the rear of the Federation fleet, and intercepting any enemy units coming from the Moon. Her first outing comes when the two Gundams intercept two Musais on patrol near Granada. The ship, along with two Salamis cruisers, next intercepted a supply fleet. However, immediately after their previous battle, a large enemy fleet deploying for A Baoa Qu is spotted, forcing pilot Luce Kassel to use the mega beam launcher, a prototype weapon designed specifically for G04 but was discarded in its development. Although the weapon is successful in both firing and annihilating the enemy fleet, it comes at the cost of Lt. Kassel's life. The ship is then assigned to guard Prime Minister Darcia Bakharov's Chivvay-class heavy cruiser on its way to peace talks at Anman on the Moon.

It's fate is unknown though it was likely destroyed along with most of the Federtation fleet at the naval review at Konpei Island in U.C. 0083. Unlike most Pegasus-Class assault carriers the Thoroughbred had a distinctive green hue, along with four engines instead of two. Aside from the two prototype Gundam's it also carried at least three Guncannons.

There also several other stories regarding her fate:

* In normal ending of Thoroughbred scenario of PS2 game Encounters in Space, both Thoroughbred and Chivvay she was defending destroyed. However, epilogue narrates that both ships were just decoys and real ship carrying Prime Minister Darcia reached the Granada and successfully signed the peace treaty.

* In special ending of Thoroughbred scenario, Romfellow miraciously defends both ships and survives.

* In the ending of the "What-if" path of the same scenario, Luce Kassel somehow survives the destruction of Gundam Unit 04 and Thoroughbred is sent to the final battle at A Baoa Qu. Kassel and Romfellow complete their objectives but while they were returning to the base, a lone Gelgoog hiding in nearby space debris aims on the back of Romfellow's Gundam Unit 4. His fate is not shown in the cutscene.
