The Ghazali Project

The Ghazali Project

The Ghazali Project is an initiative dedicated to creating engaging summaries of books, articles, and multimedia on Islam and Muslims. The summaries are designed for academics in Islamic studies and Muslims interested in accessing their tradition.

Summaries includes works from prominent Muslim thinkers such as Imam Al-Ghazali, Ibn Rajab Al-Hanbali, Imam Al-Haddad, Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, Dr. TJ Winter, Dr. Sherman Jackson, as well as many others are found on this site. Furthermore, formal citations our found in all summaries so that one may access the original sources.

The professional website, www.ghazaliproject.com, will be launched in December 2006

Reactions

The Project has been generally very well received as the comments below suggest. There is a concern however that the Project be very careful not to compromise the importance of the original works with the summaries are being created. Also, a few have cautioned the Project from taking a too ideological stance that may pigeon hole the project and its influence. Three prominent American Muslims have spoken very highly of the Project:

"This endeavour is long overdue" -Imam Zaid Shakir

"a wonderful way to introduce the profound wisdom and learning of classical Islam" -Dr. Ingrid Mattson

"this is a noble endeavour...the project opens new vistas of intellectual encounters" -Dr. Sulayman S. Nyang
