The station has previously gone under several call signs in its past. At its inception, the station was known as
KSXX , changing calls on1982-06-21 to KZJO. It previously only operated during the day only, but was later allowed to continue broadcasting during the night in 1982 with the change of calls. The station changed its format as well, broadcastingcontemporary hits identifying itself as "63 Joe." Six months later, the station changed formats again, to its current format of talk radio and on1985-08-05 , the station changed its call sign to the current KTKK.
