Stephen Steele Richards (born October 16, 1977, Chicago, USA) is vocalist and guitarist in the band Taproot.

Taproot is an Ann Arbor, Michigan, based quartet formed in 1997 by Richards and long time friend and guitarist Mike DeWolf. Taproot burst onto the music scene in 2000, following the infamous "phone message" left by Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit threatening the band's career and Richards' physical being, after feeling blindsided by the fact that Taproot was exploring other options than the demo-deal he was offering.Fact|date=September 2007 Taproot eventually signed up with Atlantic Records and released their debut album "Gift" in 2000, soon after beginning their first of two consecutive Ozzfest tours in 2000 and 2001. In October 2002, Taproot released their second album "Welcome" with hit single "Poem" selling nearly the gold record sum of 500,000 albums. Taproot released their third major label release "Blue-Sky Research" in 2005, and just released their newest album, Our Long Road Home, which came out on September 16th.

Other appearances

Richards' vocals were featured in the remix of Linkin Park's "Pushing Me Away" called "P5hng Me A*wy" on the "Reanimation" album. He was also featured on the Pulse Ultra album "Headspace", on a track called "Big Brother", as well as on a track called "Plastic" from the band Reveille. He is also currently working on an acoustic song with former Evans Blue frontman Kevin Matisyn.
