Miriam Hannecart-Jakes was born in the United States and is a resident of The Netherlands. She studied oboe in Boston Massachusetts at the New England Conservatory with famed oboist Ralph Gomberg and cor anglais in Paris with Paul Taillefer. She held the post of solo cor anglais with the Netherlands Radio Philhannonic Orchestra from 1977 until recently. Ms. Jakes has appeared as soloist with many orchestras in the United States, Mexico, The Netherlands, and is a regularly invited soloist in Japan. She has performed with various well-known conductors such as
Rudolph Barshai ,Sergiu Comissiona ,Jean Fournet ,Okku Karmi , and Hans Vonk. This year she performed the European premiere ofGunther Schuller 's "Five Impromptus " for cor anglais and string quartet. Numerous composers have written cor anglais music for her:Benjamin Ashkenazy (Israel),Wil Eisma (Holland) and Japanese composersSatashi Ohmae andTakuo Sennari .She is married to the eminent French conductor,
Jean Fournet .
