Heinz Müller (born 30 May 1978, in Frankfurt, Hesse) is a German football goalkeeper who currently plays for Barnsley in The Football League Championship.

Club career

He started his first-team career with German amateur club FSV Frankfurt in the summer of 1996 and went on to transfer to then Regionalliga Nord side Hannover 96 after one season.

He spent four seasons at the club as the second-choice keeper and managed a total of eight appearances in the Second Bundesliga over three seasons following the club's promotion to the second division in 1998. He transferred to Arminia Bielefeld in the summer of 2001, but only managed one Second Bundesliga appearance in one season and a half with the club.

In January 2003, he moved to FC St. Pauli and was their first-choice keeper until the end of the 2002-03 season, managing a total of 16 Second Bundesliga appearances. The club was, however, relegated to the third division at the end of the season and he went on to move to then newly promoted Second Bundesliga side Jahn Regensburg for the 2003-04 season, but managed only four Second Bundesliga appearances for the club at the beginning of the season in August 2003.

He subsequently transferred to Norwegian club Odd Grenland in the summer of 2004 and played there until the end of the year before moving to Lillestrøm in January 2005. He then moved to Barnsley on a three-year contract in August 2007.cite news

Ever since he joined Barnsley, he has put a number of superb performances including notable ones versus Preston North End and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

In January 2008, Muller suffered a horrific injury to the lateral meniscus whilst playing against Colchester United. Despite the injury he kept a clean sheet but would miss the remainder of the season due to the injury. He made his comeback to football in September 2008 against Southampton F.C. where Barnsley F.C. finished the game 0-0 after Heinz made some outstanding saves.

International career

He has been capped 14 times for various German youth national teams.

Trivia

*In a Norwegian commercial, Müller saves three high shots, blindfolded. It looks impressive, though the ball is computer-generated. A Daily Mail article goes on to describe the player as "57 varieties of wonderful" in reference to the slogan of the processed food company Heinz.cite news
