Shortix

Shortix is the brand name of a device manufactured by Scientific Glass Technologies, used for the precision cutting of fused silica capillary columns used in gas chromatography. The device uses a diamond cutting edge to score the outer surface of the fused silica along which the tubing breaks, creating a near-perfect square cut. The Shortix cutter is designed so that even the most inexperienced of users can produce quality cuts for tubing systems devoid of dead volumes. This device is available from Upchurch Scientific.
