History
The festival was first known as the Australian International Film Festival, initiated by the University of Canberra Convocation and held from 11 to 13 October 1996.[ [http://www.canberra.edu.au/schools/creative-communication/events/film-festival School of Creative Communication] ] In 1996, it showed 14 films, 12 of which were foreign. In 2006, an unrelated Melbourne based Australian International Film Festival was launched.
