Henry S. Robinson

Henry Seymour Robinson (16 April 1868, Hartford, Connecticut - 4 March 1926, Nassau, Bahamas) came from a prestigious New England background, being descended from such families as Trumbull and Coe; making him a relative of Winston Churchill. His father, Henry Cornelius Robinson, was mayor of Hartford and later a Republican nominee for Governor of Connecticut. Henry Seymour Robinson was educated at the Hartford Public High School and graduated from Yale in 1889. He was a keen sportsman, being a member of Yale's football team and was editor of the 'Yale Daily News' in his Sophomore year. He was elected to Eta Phi, Psi Upsilon and tapped for Skull and Bones.

Upon graduation, Robinson studied law with Robinson & Robinson, his father's firm. Two years later, he was admitted to the Connecticut bar and began practicing with Robinson & Robinson in 1893. Robinson put an end to his law career in May of 1895; and in search of greener pastures joined the Connecticut Trust & Safe Deposit Company as secretary and manager of its first trust department. He continued as secretary and trust manager until 1905, when he was appointed Vice President of the Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company. He would remain with the company until his death, serving as President from the year 1918.

He served as a director of the Hartford Fire Insurance Company; the Hartford Accident & Indemnity Company; the Hartford Carpet Corporation; and the Case, Lockwood & Brainard Company. Robinson was also Vice President of the Mechanics Saving Bank; Trustee of the Hartford-Connecticut Trust Company; Trustee of the Loomis Institute, Trustee of the Wadsworth Atheneum; Trustee of the Connecticut School for Girls; Trustee of the Handicrafts School of Hartford; Trustee of the Watkinson Library; and Trustee of the Watkinson Farm School.

Robinson served on the Hartford Common Council, from 1903 to 1907 and was a member of its board of finance, from 1905 to 1908.

He was married twice, first in 1898, to Sarah Morgan Goodwin, a second cousin of J.P. Morgan, the infamous banker and secondly in 1917, to Marion Cornelia Armstong.

Robinson was later an executor of the $30,000,000 (in 1915) will of his wife's uncle, James Junius Goodwin, who was a member of the J.P. Morgan banking firm.

He died in the Bahamas in 1926. His funeral was attended by many of his Yale classmates, including Gifford Pinchot, who was at the time Governor of Pennsylvania.
