- Susan Montee
Susan Montee (born 1960) is the State Auditor of Missouri. Montee, a Democrat, won election in November 2006 and was sworn into her position on January 4, 2007. She is the third women in succession to serve as State Auditor of Missouri.
Montee was born and raised in
St. Joseph, Missouri . Her father was shot down in Vietnam in 1966. In 2000, she obtained her law degree from theUniversity of Missouri–Kansas City .Montee was elected to an at large position on the St. Joseph City Council in 1998 and was elected Buchanan County auditor in 2000. She was re-elected to a four year term as county auditor in 2002.
In 2006, Montee sought and won election as Missouri State Auditor, defeating her Republican opponent, Sandra Thomas. Her win came with 52.8% of the vote compared to Thomas's 43.4% and others with 3.8%. The seat was vacated by
Claire McCaskill in her successful run for the U.S. Senate seat from Missouri. Montee assumed the office four days before her term was scheduled to begin. Republican GovernorMatt Blunt appointed Montee to fill the brief vacancy created when McCaskill was sworn into the Senate.
