September 22 ,1898 –April 24 ,1978 ) was a college football coach at NC State, and Notre Dame. From 1931 to 1933, he served as the head football coach at Notre Dame, and compiled a 16-9-2 record. From 1934 to 1936, he coached at NC State, where he compiled an 11-17-1 record.From 1918 to 1921, he was an offensive guard for the Notre Dame football team, under coach
Knute Rockne . From 1922 to 1926, he played for theChicago Bears . In 1939, he coached for theDetroit Lions .He was born in
Calumet, Michigan , attended Calumet High School and played college football from 1918-1921. He was 5'11" and weighed 170 lbs. He was inducted into theCollege Football Hall of Fame in 1974.External links
