Sydeston

Sydeston

Sydeston (born 1985) was one of the best racehorses to come out of Tasmania in the history of Australian racing, and easily the best to do so in the modern era. A descendant of Nearco, he was transferred to Bob Hoysted in 1989, and the plain brown gelding quickly built an outstanding record. Over the next 18 months, he won numerous races, including the Caulfield, Moonee Valley, and Sandown Cups, and the Mercedes Classic, the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, and the Caulfield Stakes at weight-for-age. Sydeston was adept in all conditions, and regularly raced with the outstanding gallopers of his era, including Vo Rogue, Super Impose, Better Loosen Up, The Phantom, and Shaftesbury Avenue.
