Derek Fordjour

Derek Fordjour is an artist/painter and producer of documentaries. Fordjour received a B.A. degree from Morehouse College and an Ed. M. degree Harvard University.^[1]

LaChanze, wife of Derek Fordjour

Fordjour is married to LaChanze, whom he met when commissioned by the widow, Mrs. LaChanze Sapp-Gooding, to paint a mural for her late-husband and his colleagues who perished on September 11, 2001. LaChanze was the winner of the 2006 Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for the role of Celie in the Broadway musical The Color Purple, the Oprah Winfrey production of book The Color Purple.^[2][3] Fordjour has one son, Langston.^[4]

Fordjour is the executive producer of the "The Black Sorority Project: The Exodus", the story of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. The documentary is an independent historical initiative that is not funded, supported, endorsed or promoted by Delta Sigma Theta.^[5]

Fordjour is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. Fordjour was commissioned by Alpha Phi Alpha to create a portrait entitled "An Experiment in Brotherhood" to commemorate the founding of the fraternity.^[6]
