Stroman and writer Todd Johnson co-created the million-selling Image comic "Tribe", which is the largest
African-American -created comic of all time. After the title was canceled in the "Image shakeup" of 1994, Stroman and Johnson foundedAxis Comics to continue publication of "Tribe", but the company quickly went under, after having published only nine books. In a press release, Stroman cited a change in his working relationship with Johnson, and "increased production costs, creator apathy, and unforeseen market factors."cite news | last = Benton | first = John | coauthors = | title = Axis Comics Gets the Ax: Larry Stroman Announces Axis to Be Dissolved | work = | pages = 17-19 | language = | publisher = Hero Illustrated | date = July 1994 | url = | accessdate = ]Recent work
