A New Ascension

A New Ascension is a studio project from Jacksonville, Florida. Musicians who performed on their first release, The Winter '06 EP include Jordin Mylar (Vocals/Piano) and Jared Boice (Vocals/ guitar) who is the primary writer, producer and director of the project (and also a guest performer on the Evergreen Terrace CD, "Wolfbiker"). The backbone of the effort consisted of Marc Machone (Bass) and Ricky Spoons (Drums).

History

Before joining A New Ascension, Jordin was lead vocalist for Further From. Jared Boice was the lead guitar for the band Escher. Former bass player and current guest musician Mark Machone played with Virgin Records' The Summer Obsession before joining. He now plays for the ska/punk band Good Fortune. Spoons was the drummer for lesser known underground bands including Hurlburt and Greenbriar before being recruited by Boice.

Labels and publicists

The project is currently signed with several publishing agencies including Pump Audio, BeatPick, and Song Catalog. A New Ascension are also ASCAP members. The group has had their music used in the MTV database, which is rotated as eyecatch and background music through various shows. A New Ascension are also played on the internet radio station PittRadio and Last FM.

The band also provides music for the reality show and podcast Undercover Starlet. A New Ascension signed an agreement with the show in September 2006 allowing use of the single, "Another Galileo". The show purchased the non-exclusive rights and the unlimited use of the single for the duration of two seasons. This agreement included the right to use the music in any podcast, broadcast and DVD release, so long as the episode was recorded within the allotted time. A release of the seasons onto DVD is expected sometime in the near future.

In the winter of 2007, Beatpick (a London-based licensing agency) secured a deal placing the A New Ascension track, "Tina Gray" (Written by lead vocalist Jordin Mylar) in a DVD Movie titled "The Naked Ape." The movie features new young actors including Chelse Swain (Judging Amy) and Josh Wise (War of the Words and Frasier). The film also includes well known, seasoned actors such as Corbin Bernsen (The Dentist 1 and 2) recognized for his role as character Roger Dorn in Major League with Charlie Sheen. Another well known actor, Price Carson (JFK, The O.C, Bones and The Practice) also stars in The Naked Ape.

Live shows

Much to the disappointment of fans, A New Ascension remains a studio-only project. The band has turned down several offers from indie as well as major labels. Offers to play at shows such as Planet Fest 6 ("2005") were turned down in hopes of remaining focused on creating a more artistic and "real" sound for their music while in the studio. The band continues to reject venue requests, attempting to limit the distractions the band encounters while writing and recording.

Requests for a live show grow daily. In the summer of 2006, the band decided to play one, very personal acoustic set for a group of fans at an intimate club called "The Pigeon Hole" in London. No video, cameras, or voice recorders were allowed during the 1 hour set. Future live shows have not been ruled out by the band.

The genre

Jordin Mylar quoted another band from Jacksonville when questioned about the style of music A New Ascension creates. Stating, "Labels are for cans" when asked about the "Christian" tittle given to their brand of Rock. The quote was from the Takeover Records band Inspection 12. "We don't deliver the stereotypical Christian rock message. In fact, its not very Christian at all. We simply ask that our audience consider the possibility that a G-d does exist, in any form. We are in complete support of any conclusions our fans come to. We understand that everyone has a right to believe whatever they want...We support every faith." This quote, taken from a Fall 2005 issue of Folio Weekly, shows the bands attempt at creating music with an open mind. While A New Ascension remain labeled a Christian band for now, it doesn't stop them from trying to recreate themselves spiritually as well as musically.
