- WorldDMB
The WorldDMB (formerly World DAB Forum) is an international non-governmental organisation which defines the standards for
Digital audio broadcasting andDigital Multimedia broadcasting . It represents 120 organisations (mainly broadcasters and manufacturers) from more than 30 countries. At present it is responsible for promoting and coordinating the
Eureka 147 DAB system. However, in a press release in November 2006 [http://www.worlddab.org/upload/uploaddocs/WorldDMBPress%20Release_November.pdf] WorldDMB announced a new draft specification. The new standard is backwards compatible ie could decode existing DAB broadcasts. Unfortunately, existing DAB radios would not be able to decode the new broadcasts. The proposal allows for existing DAB broadcasts to continue for the foreseeable future, and so will delay the obsolescence of radios using the existing DAB standard. On 30 October 2006 the World DAB Forum announced a change in name to WorldDMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) to show that its objectives cover radio, mobile TV and the broadcasting of new media services and not just the DAB standards.
