List of people who have beaten José Raúl Capablanca in chess

The following twenty-seven people have beaten José Raúl Capablanca in a regular game of chess — not a game played at odds. Capablanca is considered to be perhaps the strongest human chess player in history, being undefeated for over eight years of active, world-class competition, from February 10, 1916 to March 21, 1924 (Comparing top chess players throughout history). [Arpad Elo, "The Rating of Chessplayers, Past and Present", (1978)] [Raymond Keene and Nathan Divinsky, "Warriors of the Mind", (1989)] [Jeff Sonas, [http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=2345 The Greatest Chess Player of All Time – Part I] (2001), at Chessbase]

Some of the people listed played Capablanca when he was quite young, and some were "Simul" games, where he took on multiple opponents at the same time. These players are listed with an (S) next to them. Players who defeated Capablanca when he was under 16 years of age have an (U16) by their names.
