Australia ngarage rock bandThe Vines , and currently the bassist ofYouth Group . Matthews foundedThe Vines with his good friend,Craig Nicholls . The two met while working at McDonalds in Sydney. Matthews stayed with the band for their first two albums. It wasn't until the tour following their 2004 release Winning Days that he famously left the stage and the band after Nicholls, who hasAsperger Syndrome , had a breakdown at Sydney'sAnnandale Hotel . Craig broke his guitar, insulted members of the crowd and fell to the ground while screamingfact|date=June 2007. Despite the fact that he no longer plays with the Vines, Patrick remains friends with Nicholls. He is now the official bassist of the Australian bandYouth Group who have experienced commercial success as an indie rock band in not just Australia, but the UK and US as well.Older brother of
