Mons Hill School

Mons Hill School

Mons Hill School was a secondary school located on the Wrens Nest Estate in Dudley, England. It was opened in 1965 to replace a late 19th century secondary school approximately one mile away in Wolverhampton Street, and gave education to pupils aged 11 to 16 years (with the starting age rising to 12 after 1972). It was originally known as Wrens Nest Secondary School before its name changed to Mons Hill School in 1975. The school closed in July 1990 after falling numbers on the school reduced its viability.

Most pupils and staff relocated to Coseley School and Castle High, which were already being expanded to take in 11 year olds after the secondary school starting age was reverted from 12.

It re-opened shortly afterwards as a campus of Dudley College, replacing a previous site in nearby Coseley, and was expanded in 1993 with high quality facilities for skilled trades such as construction, hairdressing and motor engineering.

Sam Allardyce, currently manager of Bolton Wanderers Football Club, attended the school from 1966 to 1970.
