- Jugaad
Jugaad (
Hindi : जुगाद) are locally made motor vehicles that are used mostly in small villages as a means of low cost transportation inIndia ."Jugaad" literally means a work around, which have to be used because of lack of resources and/or will power. This is a hindi term also widely used by people speaking other Indian languages, and people of Indian origin around the word.
Some use of "Jugaad" in Phrases
"Jugaad karna" (doing a "Jugaad"): means to arrange.
"Apna Jugaad Hai" (I/We have a "Jugaad"): I/we am/are Having (unfair)Links.
"Kuchh Jugaad Karo" (Do some "Jugaad"): Do it anyhow.
"Jugaadu": A person who know methods/ways of doing the workaround or accomplishing the basic result by alternate/illegal means.The same term is still used for a type of vehicle, found in rural India. This vehicle is made by carpenters, Repeating it is carpenters, by fitting a diesel engine on a cart.
Cost
"Jugaad" cost around Rs. 40,000 (US$1,000). They are known for having poor brakes and can not go beyond 40 km/h. They operate on
diesel fuel and are just ordinary waterpump sets converted into engine.The brakes of these vehicles very often fail and one of the passengers jumps down and applies a manual wooden block as a brake. These vehicles do not have any
vehicle registration plate as they are not registered with theRegional Transport Office (RTO ). Hence, they end up not paying anyroad tax .Also, "Jugaad" is a colloquial Hindi word that means a quick-easy-dirty fix or a resource that can be used as such or a person who can suggest, conjure or implement a quick-easy-dirty fix.
Even though in everyday life, a Jugaad can be a solution, in context of Management, Jugaad is essentially a person who has some special capability or access to a resource or even access to another Jugaad that can be useful under extreme or special circumstances.
A Jugaadu person is one who has numerous useful and cashable Jugaads.
When spoken in context of people, there is a slight connotation of sly behaviour attributed
Jugaad is also a verb which indicates the ingenuity to achieve results by out of box thinking, at times even temporary fixes.
