John Brunious

John Brunious

John Brunious Jr. (born October 12, 1940 - died February 12, 2008) was a jazz trumpeter and the bandleader for the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

Brunious was the son of John Brunious Sr, a jazz musician in his own right and also his teacher. Brunious's initial inspirations were Dizzy Gillespie and Maynard Ferguson, but he had a continued interest in older styles of jazz. He has been a member of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band since the 1980s. [ [http://pas.appstate.edu/preservationhallhistory.php4 Appalachian State University] ]

The events of Hurricane Katrina caused him to lose many of his possessions. He also spent several days at a convention center before temporarily relocating to Arkansas to be treated for dehydration. He had since recovered. [ [http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9428130/ MSNBC] ]

John Brunious died of a heart attack on February 12, 2008 in Orlando,Florida where he resided with his wife and step-daughter.Fact|date=July 2008 The family had moved to Orlando after losing their home and possessions in the flood in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.
