Eddie Chambers (boxer) "Eddie Chambers (born 1960 in
Wolverhampton ) is an English artist, art critic and curator. In 1982 he was a founder member of the influentialBLK Art Group . Chambers gained a BA (Hons) Fine Art degree from Sunderland Polytechnic in 1983. He now holds a PhD fromGoldsmiths College , awarded in 1998, for his thesis researching press and public responses to Black visual arts practice in England in the 1980s.Chambers began organising exhibitions while still a student. Since then, he has curated a large number of exhibitions in Britain and abroad. In 1989 he established the African and Asian Visual Artists’ Archive, a Black artists' research and reference facility, co-ordinating the project for several years until the autumn of 1992.
He writes regularly for Art Monthly on the subject of African-Caribbean and "Black art". Chambers has curated landmark exhibitions such as 'Black Art: Plotting the Course', 1988; 'History and Identity: Seven Painters', 1991; 'Black People and the British Flag', 1993 and most recently 'Mildres Howard: In the Line of Fire', 1999. He works and lives in
