The agreement between Turkish gas company
BOTAŞ and Greek gas companyDEPA was signed on28 March 2002 . The intergovernmental agreement to build a natural gas pipeline between countries was signed on23 December 2003 inAnkara . The foundation of pipeline was laid on3 July 2005 by the prime ministersKostas Karamanlis andRecep Tayyip Erdoğan . It was completed in September2007 . The length of Turkish section is convert|210|km|mi|0, of which convert|17|km|mi|0 are under the
Marmara Sea . The length of Greek section is convert|86|km|mi|0. The diameter of pipeline is convert|36|in|mm|0 and the capacity is 7 billion cubic meter (bcm) of natural gas per annum. In2012 the capacity will be expanded to 11 bcm, of which 8 bcm will be delivered toItaly afterGreece-Italy pipeline is becoming operational. Also proposedWest Balkan pipeline andTrans-Adriatic Pipeline are planned to be supplied from the Turkey-Greece pipeline.
