Emil Edvin Wide (
February 22 ,1896 –June 19 ,1996 ) was a Swedish long-distance runner.Born in
Finland , Wide competed for Sweden at the1920 Summer Olympics held inAntwerp ,Belgium , in the 3000 metre team, where he won the bronze medal with his team matesEric Backman andSven Lundgren .He returned to the Olympics four years later in the
1924 Summer Olympics held inParis ,France , where he had his greatest Olympic success in winning the silver medal in the 10,000 metres behindVille Ritola ofFinland . He also finished behind Ville in the 5,000 metres in winning his second Olympic bronze medal in a race won by Ville’s team matePaavo Nurmi .At the
1928 Summer Olympics the 5,000 metre medals went to the same people as in 1924, only the Finns swapped medals, leaving Edvin with his third Olympic bronze medal. He then finished behind the same two yet again for the third time in Olympic competition to win the bronze medal in the 10,000 metres. He died inStockholm at age 100.References
