Anupama (b. 1974 in a musically inclined family in
Bhilai , India) has established herself with performances at festivals andvenue s worldwide, including: Ustad Amir Khan Smriti Samaroh (Indore), Assisi, Turin (Italy), Nice (France) Swami Haridas Samaroh, Saptak (Ahmedabad), Sankat Mochan Samaroh (Varanasi), India International Center (New Delhi), Sangeet Research Academy (Kolkata), Lotus World Music Festival (USA), MIT Fall Concert Series (USA), Baba HarBallabh Samaroh-Vasant Utsav (Jalandhar), and Basant Bahar (California).Anupama began her musical training in Bhilai with Shri R. N. Verma at the age of nine, having received her uncle's
sitar as a gift. At the age of thirteen, she commenced her tutelage with Pandit ShriBimalendu Mukherjee , adoyen of theImdadkhani Gharana which is renowned for its fluency and grace. Under her Guruji’s guidance, Anupama has acquired the finesse and technical nuances of theGayaki style, while bringing out its lyrical beauty with the emotive cadences of the sitar. During this time, Anupama has been conferred the title Surmani, by Sur Sringar Sansad, Bombay (1995); she won First Position in theAll India Radio Music Competition (1994), as well as an HRD Scholarship from the Government of India (1993-1996). Now as an established artiste, besides her concert appearances world-wide, Anupama conducts sitar workshops and lecture-demonstrations. She has also collaborated on World-Music performances in Global Rhythms and Shanti. Anupama has also received grants in 2000, 2002, and 2004, from the Ohio Arts Council (USA).Anupama obtained her Masters in music from Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya (Khairagarh), India. She has appeared on All India Radio, Doordarshan National Television (India), WDPR (Dayton Public Radio), WEFT (Champaign, IL), Mood Indigo (California Arts TV).
