MS Aramis

MS Aramis

MS "Aramis" was built for Messageries Maritimes for their Europe-Asia colonial route. She was unusual in the fact that her funnels were square-shaped. She was 566 feet long, 69 feet wide and registered 17,537 gross tons. Her diesel engines helped her reach a cruising speed of 15 knots. She carried 1,045 passengers in first, second, third and steerage class.

She was used as an Allied merchant cruiser from 1939 to 1942. Seized by Japan, she was renamed Teia Maru. On August 18, 1944, she was torpedoed and sunk by an American submarine near the Philippine islands.
